The Spinning Wheel of The Local Economy

Women have traditionally been contributing to the local economy through their spinning wheel. However their contribution to the livelihood within the household as well as outside is least recognized. Their labour is unrewarded and their efforts are unappreciated. This elderly lady is preparing weft and warp for traditional carpet. Her job is hard that calls for great tolerance, patience and forbearance. After acquiring wool from sheep and carding it, she has entered the second phase of preparing the tread [weft and warp] for traditional carpet, Patti or sweater. My mother passed through all these processes in preparing a woolen coat for me. I still treasure it!
